This page started as an exercise to teach myself HTML. It occured to me that if I was going to create a web-site then it should contain some information about it's author. It should also be informative and provide some facts about where I live, and with the assistance of text and photographs I hope I have achieved this.

I was born in South Africa back when you could still go into 'darkest Africa and experience the country the way Edgar Rice Burroughs described it ... ah well maybe not quite as romantic or dramatic as that (and not as far back as that either) but rest assured that it certainly was different to the modern country which can be seen today. After spending some time in Britain I figured that I missed the sun and the good weather and I emigrated to Australia on that wonderful 'ten pound emigration scheme' and Melbourne became home for some years. This was a time when jobs were in abundance and a change in life style was as easy as finding another job. A change for me found me spending many years in the Wimmera which is the wheat belt of north western Victoria. After a sojourn in Adelaide in South Australia (where my daughter still lives) I settled in Hamilton.
